Driving through the Peterborough area and looking for a nice quiet place to walk your dog? Consider Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park.
Conveniently located just east of highway 115 along highway 7, Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park is open for day use from May to October. Normally, most visitors take advantage of the short hiking trails through a beautiful mature forest.

The trail head is on the north side of the large gravel parking lot. Similar to other provincial parks, visitors required a day parking pass. We started our hike on the main trail, walking past the washrooms and picnic area. Compared to most Provincial Park trails, the main trail is quite wide. In addition, it was well graded, relatively flat and an would be an easy hike with kids.

Unfortunately, we visited Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park shortly after the summer storm of 2022 that ripped through the area. Consequently, part of the park was closed as the fallen trees had not been cleared from the trails. Today, we hiked the bottom loop, which was about 900 meters. Although only a quick hike, it was a nice quick break before we had to get back into the car for the rest of our drive. This forest must be stunning in the fall, we will definitely have to come back for another visit!
