I can’t believe how time flies. Our two lab puppies are still babies but are now one year old!
We had to have a party!!! The festivities lasted about 10 minutes but it was so much fun watching them enjoy their special day.
We have been celebrating Maze’s birthday for the past three years by getting a single hamburger with only ketchup on it. It is the only time during the year she gets this, so we had to continue the tradition. And of course, we needed birthday cupcakes for each of the dogs.
I have included the recipe that my daughters created during the summer while they were selling their home made dog treats, so we knew the dogs would love them. We added baking soda and baking powder to make them rise for the cupcakes:
DOG BIRTHDAY CUPCAKES
- 2 tbs peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of pumpkin
- 2 tbsp of honey
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 tsp of baking powder
- 1/2 tsp of baking soda
- 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour
- Spray cupcake pan to ensure they don’t stick. Fill to the top and bake at 350F for 30 minutes. This made 4 cupcakes for us which was plenty as a treat.
Of course, each dog needed a hat and had to sit at the table as it was a special birthday day. Perhaps slightly smaller hats would have stayed on their heads better, but they sure made for some great memories and hilarious photos.
As I said, this was a whirl wind of dogs and food. I will give you a play by play of what happened and then add some pictures to tell the rest of the story.
We asked Maze to get up on the chair, she did and we put a hat on. We put the burger in front of her and she nudged it but waited for our cue. The puppies were not so accommodating. I tackled Nyx as Karen attempted to get Nala on a chair. Nyx got on the chair fine but would not sit still. We got the hat on her but the hamburger disappeared in a heartbeat. I am not sure she tasted it! You will see a picture of Karen trying to get Nala on the chair and although she didn’t actually get on the chair she managed to get her burger.
We next gave them their birthday cupcake. Maze was amazing as usual, eating like the princess she is. Again, the puppies were wild and excited. Nyx inhaled hers and then decided to try to get Nala’s while standing on the table. It was all so much fun and the pink table cloth and the 1st birthday plates Karen brought were the perfect touch.
