Yes, I have a soft spot for Huntsville, ON. I grew up on Skeleton Lake, which is right between Huntsville and Bracebridge. We pondered for a while where we should go on our vacation with our dogs. We decided on a week full of exploring Huntsville. So, this particular week had their fall festival so we planned to arrive that weekend.
Huntsville’s Harvest Feast
As soon as we got into Huntsville, we visited the dog friendly festival. It festival was amazing! The Town had shut down the entire main street and filled it with vendors and entertainment. Below you will see the schedule.

There was several food vendors there with many choices of food from all over the word. Also, there were lots of sweets and freshly made bread. There were also lots of retail vendors as well. Some vendors promoted a store that was on the main street and others were promoting their own artistry.
What is a festival without many dog friendly photo opportunities! We had fun taking advantage of each one.

Amongst the photo opportunities and the vendors were the local breweries. It was well done. We bought tickets from the Town and then went to the breweries of our choice to get our beer. We could even walk around the event with our beers!

After visiting all of the vendors we headed to our home for the next week. We chose well!
Home2 Suites by Hilton
If you have read my earlier blogs on our visits to Huntsville, you will know our go-to place. It is the dog friendly Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn is amazing. It is right in town, beside a wonderful bakery, Henrietta’s. When we have the dogs, we are on the ground floor with our own sliding door. The downfall of the Comfort Inn is that it does not have a kitchen. If you are traveling with the dogs or not, having a kitchen for a week is a necessity.
The Suite
Home2 Suites was a great choice! It was extremely dog friendly and it had the kitchenette we desired. The price for a week was way under a cost of a cottage. And we had a full breakfast buffet every morning! The room was very comfortable. We had:
- 2 queen beds
- TV
- Couch
- Table and a chair
- Apartment size fridge
- Sink with counter space
- Full set of dishes, utensils, pots
- Dishwasher, paper towel, scrubby, soap and dishwasher pods
- Wonderful bathroom with a luxurious shower!
The hotel checked the dogs in as well. We had a sign on our door indicating we had dogs. There were extra sheets given to us to put on the couch or bed in case the dogs wanted up. We had brought our own as well but so thoughtful!
Amenities
The amenities of the hotel were great as well. They had a fitness center, washer and dryer area and a pool (not dog friendly). We had asked if it was OK if we left the dogs in the room to swim. The hotel had no issues as we had completed paperwork with cell numbers if there was a problem. Outside there was a fire pit, two BBQ’s and a patio area to eat at. The morning breakfast had everything anyone can ask for. There was oatmeal to waffles to the fixings for egg sandwiches. There was also coffee and juice.
We were allowed to bring the dogs with us to breakfast. They sat away from everyone in front of the fire. We ate while the dogs slept. I don’t have a picture of this there were children everywhere at all times – sorry!
The beds were terrific and we had a wonderful sleep.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of our trip!
- Day 2 – Coming Soon!
