Two Dogs, Two Kids and Two Days….
We decided on a last minute road trip with the kids before school started. Two kids, two dogs and me hopped in the car and started for North Beach Provincial Park. We planned on spending the day at North Beach Provincial Park and off to Sandbanks Provincial Park and then explore the area We decided to stay the night at the Travelodge in Trenton. On the second day the kids wanted to check out the National Air Force Museum and then make our way home ensuring we stopped in Port Hope at Primitive Design.
We founds so many dog friendly places:
- North Beach Provincial Park
- Travelodge – Trenton
- Boston Pizza – Trenton
- On Leash Hanna Park & Kinsman Off-Leash Dog Park-Trenton
- Handworks – Bloomfield, ON
- Primitive Design – Port Hope, ON
North Beach Provincial Park
First stop – North Beach Provincial Park. There were postings about a nice dog beach there so we though, let’s check it out! Karen, Nala and their family joined us here for the day.
We were not disappointed! What a beach! When we arrived, there were several warnings about bacteria in the Lake Ontario and that side beach was closed but there is a beautiful beach on the North Bay which was beautiful!
Here are some pictures of the Lake Ontario Beach – the waves were crazy!
So we headed to the North Bay beach. It is all pet friendly. There were several families there on the beach but there was a stretch of the waterfront between the pet friendly beach and the non-pet friendly beach that was shallow, sandy and a perfect place to play. We had so much fun!
Since the main beach onto Lake Ontario was bacteria ridden we decided to not go to Sandbanks that day as we didn’t want the dogs to drink the water.
Travelodge in Trenton -Perfect Place for Doggy Snores!
While visiting Prince Edward County we decided to stay at the Travelodge – Trenton. It was $15 per pet to stay and they were great about it. They even had a huge place for the dogs at the back. It is on the water but the water didn’t look inviting for the dogs to visit so we stayed on the grass.
The beds were fantastic – which is the most important thing (along with cleanliness). They were dog approved!
Breakfast was included in the stay for us humans and it was fantastic! They had a breakfast area with tables and chairs and all of the morning favorites. The dogs stayed in the room while we ate which was no problem for management.
We all slept well and had a fantastic stay!
Boston Pizza – Trenton
That night we were stayed in Trenton so we starting exploring for a dinner option. We found a micro brewery, 555 Brewery that was more than happy to accommodate the dogs on the patio but unfortunately it was raining too hard for us to enjoy and try their food. They were very friendly and were very open to having the dogs. If you try it, let us know how it was!
We ended up having take out at Boston Pizza. We love Boston Pizza and every Boston Pizza we have gone to has been wonderful to our dogs (except Belleville, they said no dogs at all). It was still raining so we couldn’t take advantage of this option so we ate at the hotel and the food was as good as it always is.
Boston Pizza – Whitby North
This restaurant is our home away from home during the summer and we always take our dogs. There is a table right by the patio gate that we take which is away from others. We often just have an afternoon drink there with or without our kids but always with our dogs. The people there is always ridiculously nice always making sure that they have a full bowl of water and they know now that the extra plate of fries are for them (ssshhhh, we only do it once in a while!) If you go, say “hi” for us!
Off Leash Kinsman Park & On Leash Hanna Park -Trenton
On the second day of visiting Prince Edward County we had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel and headed to the local dog park. It was amazing! It is called the Kinsmen Dog Park (Trenton). There was a fenced in dog area and trails. The fenced in area had a dog obstacle course to play with and it had a covered stand for humans to keep warm while their fur babies played.
The trails were great! We wanted to check them out so we took the dogs on a trail walk as well. Here is the map of the trails.
Here are some pictures of the trails.
This area is a great place to stop whether you are visiting the area with dogs or staying a while.
The draw to Trenton was the museum for the kids so the dogs and I chilled at one of the waterfront parks in Trenton while they visited and then we took the backroads to start heading home.
Handworks in Bloomfield – Dog Friendly Shopping!
While making our way, we spotted a wonderful place that screamed at my antique shopping side. It was all outdoors and we could wonder around with our pups on a leash. It is called Handworks – Bloomfield. The buildings were made of windows and were full of antiques, pottery and just stuff!
The best part is how it is operated. If you can touch it, simply send a e-transfer. It is based on the honor system. If there is something that is behind a locked door, then ring the bell and the owner will come out and help you! They also ship to anywhere in the country. A fun place to stop and give everyone a break from the car ride home!
Primitive Design in Port Hope
On our way home from visiting Prince Edward County we headed to our favorite place which is also very dog friendly (a head up – they do have chickens!) – Primitive Design in Port Hope. This place is a must stop as it has something for everyone! The owners are absolutely lovely and fascinating to talk to. They travel during their months closed to purchase their products from all over the world and he also creates these amazing sculptures.
We made our way home from there. A super fun trip with the kids and the dogs. The dogs slept the entire next day and were happy to find their own beds and dog dishes again.
