Road Trip – Collingwood/Blue Mountain at Easter!

We are back!!!!

It has been a long winter and we are back to doing things with the pups and shouting out how much fun we are having!   So, for Easter weekend we went to Collingwood!

Collingwood is sooooo dog friendly!

Welcome to Blue Mountain

We started by booking a dog friendly place to stay on booking.com (there is no affiliate program here –  I just like the program).  We stayed in a cute little cottage just outside Collingwood.    Our plan was that it would be an ongoing place to stay but we wouldn’t go back.  The owner had two dogs that visited Maze and Nyx through the windows when they were out and we also had a bit of an issue paying.     We will try another place next time we go!

Friday

We arrived Friday and weren’t able to check in until 4 pm so we visited Blue Mountain Village to see what was happening!  The Village is busy on the best of day’s but this time it was packed!  We lucked out by scoring a parking spot close the entrance – point for the Diamonds!  We walked around and shopped for all the things we don’t need.  Most stores there are dog friendly.  There are only a couple that were not.  We were walking down one of the corridors and Nyx started barking frantically at…..a stuffed leather elephant footrest.  These footrests are showcased outside the store door.  After drawing a ton of attention to us (can’t imagine what people thought was happening),  Nyx finally calmed down and investigated.  Do dogs have embarrassed faces?  I am pretty sure Nyx would of had one on her face afterwards!

While at the village we realized our grand plan of grabbing groceries at a store on the way to check in was flawed as everything was close on Good Friday.  We decided to visit MJ Byrnes Irish Pub for dinner as they have a wonderful dog menu as well!

MJ Byrnes Irish Pub

We have been here before so we know the prices are right and the food is delicious.  The best part is that their dog friendly patio is fully covered.   The panels are glass so there is plenty of just sitting and watching the world go by!

We ordered dinner for the pups.  Nyx is allergic to everything so we found a dinner that met her restrictions and ordered two along with our dinners!

They dogs had beef, rice, peas and carrots.  It was $9 and it was delicious (yes, I tried it!!).

After enjoying the ambiance for a while we headed out to check into our rental. We had a wonderful night playing games with the girls and watching movies (dogs crashed!  – big day for them). We hit the hay excited to see what tomorrow brought!

Saturday

Downtown Collingwood had a kids Easter Egg Hunt event in the morning and we thought it would be a lot of fun to watch the kids find the Easter Eggs in the shop windows so we headed to the downtown area with Maze and Nyx. The town had a square with fun photo opportunities that we had to take advantage of!

We have a couple of friends in the area so we needed to say hi! Our next stop was the Collingwood Brewery in Collingwood where we met them for amazing beer and lunch.  We love their beer and always take a bunch home.

We ordered some food for lunch at the onsite food truck, which was fantastic!  Mike and I’s favorite beer is the beer that is made in honor of dogs, of course!  Collingwood Brewery collaborated with Georgian Triangle Humane Society and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each can of Happy Tails Session IPA is donated to the GTHS.  How wonderful is that?!?!?

It was a beautiful afternoon and we hung outside at the picnic table by the fires but the pups are welcome inside too.  Another set of friends crashed the party for a bit and then we headed out to Blue Mountain Village to watch Retro Pond Skim event.

As I said, Blue Mountain is VERY dog friendly.  With the dogs with us, we climbed part way up the hill, grabbed a beer and watched the skiers and snowboarders skim their way across the pool of water!   Everyone was having a great time – including the dogs as they were getting pet by anyone walking or standing by!!!

Although we were there the day before, there were new Easter events on Saturday. The Village had brought in a petting zoo with horses, and goats, live music and a bon fire to hang out while enjoying the band. Great afternoon!

That evening we were invited to a friends for dinner and games. After we headed back to our rental for a well deserved good night sleep.

Sunday

Our way home the next morning was way quieter than our way there. The dogs and the kids were a little tired from everything we got up to! Bye Collingwood – until next time!
