McKenzie. Kenzie. The Brown Dog. An integral part of our family.
Kenzie is our 14 year old Chocolate Lab in our family. She is my mom’s dog and we try to hang out with her whenever possible. We look forward to looking after Kenzie when my mom has gone to visit her mom (my grandma). We do our best to make her time with us as amazing as we can as we know my mom misses her dearly when she is away. We even try and do some video calls throughout the week!
Kenzie has lived quite the life so far. If you’ve read about the adventures of Maze, Nyx and Nala in the other articles, you may not believe me when I say the puppy version of Kenzie was a wilder beast than the three of them together (although I think Nala would give Kenzie a run for her money).
Before the Maze and Nyx era, Suzanne and I took Kenzie on our adventures. Kenzie learned to swim at Suzanne’s family cottage in Huntsville, Ontario. Swimming started slowly but eventually we got her to jump off the side of the dock to chase down sticks and toys. Sometimes the toys would sink and Kenzie would swim further and further into the lake. Suzanne would eventually have to go in and get her!
As the bond between Kenzie and Suzanne started to grow, Suzanne started to think that maybe dogs were not so bad and we should look into bringing one into our home. This is where Maze and then eventually Nyx came in! Kenzie is always excited to meet new pups and accepted our Red and Black ones into the family without any issue.
The three of them have spent many days and hours together, attending many events throughout the years. Kenzie has taught everyone that there is nothing better than a snow storm, a mud puddle, sharing some fries or simply hanging out and watching TV. She is a soul we can all learn something from.
A lab at 14 years old is like us being 90 years old. Kenzie is wise and stubborn and knows exactly what she wants. We love her to death and enjoy every minute with her.
