We had the absolute pleasure of visiting the K9 Carnival fundraiser this past weekend with Nyx & Maze! So much fun was had by all! There was dock diving, an agility course (demostrations for both), vendors, baking, and a BBQ Food shack!
Homeward Bound Rescue
Let’s start by telling you who Homeward Bound Rescue is first – as proceeds was for them!
I think their website spells it out perfectly.
To even touch the heart strings even more, this resucue was started by a women named Kathleen. She started by just rescuing any animal on a small scale, often paying for the costs herself. She followed through right to the adoption of that animal. Although she is no longer with us, the rescue lives on with a Board of Directors and many dogs living their best life because of her!
Homeward Bound rescues, fosters and assists with adoptions of flat faced dogs such as bull dogs and mastiffs. The whole non-profit is run by volunteers and any funds that are donated goes directly to the dogs.

K9 Central
The host of this fantastic canival is K9 Central. This facility is AMAZING! They have so much going on there between doggy daycare, boarding, and training! They can help train just basic commands, dock diving, agility courses, scent training…..the list still goes on, so much I thought it would be better just to replicate the list on their menu so you can see just how amazing of a facility they are.
This only touches the surface of what they offer because the “Dog Trainig” can be teaching your dog to scent detect, or teaching your dog agility courses. They also have seminars and host competitions (where you can camp onsite)! OHMYGOSH how much fun is that! That particular event was dock diving. During one of the demonstations they said that the dog who was demonstrating could dock dive over 28 feet into the pool!
The Carnival
We were introduced to dock diving at the Pet Expo last fall (Pet Expo blog here) so we were so excited to get another dose of it at the K9 Carival. The carnival was set up behind the buidings by the dock diving station and their agility course. We headed to the dock diving first to try and miss the line up. We got tickets for both of the dogs to give it a go! The tickets were extremely reasonable.
Nyx went first and LOVED it as we expected!
We didn’t have much luck trying to get Maze to dock dive previously but we thought we would give it a try again to see if maybe she would jump – epic fail. Maze would only drink the water and paw at the ball.
We next headed to the demostration for the agility course and after we gave it a try. Again, we had to have tickets for this event to try it but the amount of each ticket was very nominal.
Here are some of the pictures from the agility demo. The dogs are very talented!
There were tons of vendors there with everything from dog collars, to clothes, pottery, vets and non-profit rescues. There was also a Snack Bar which had very reasonable priced and very yummy food.
Beside the Snack Bar was a baking sale except it wasn’t a sale, it was take what you want and please donate. We couldn’t resist these cookies and of course, we donated!
We met a couple of vendors that we really enjoyed talking to. There were many vendors there and they should all be showcased but here is two we thought you would enjoy.
The Kibble Project
The Kibble Project was founded by Mexico native Gladys Orozco. Along with her husband Elvis Stojko, Gladys has a small pet food bank to help animal foster parents and shelters with everyday food and supplies. They have helped countless animal shelters and rescue organizations all over Ontario.
Only a few weeks ago the Kibble Project was even able to bring 10 homeless dogs from Mexico to find their forever home! Click here for that heartwarming video!
Maze & Nyx naturally loved Gladys instantly as you can see. For more information on the Kibble Project, please click here.
DogsnCrafters
The next vendor is close to our hearts, because as Nyx’s allergies her favorite chew toy is an antler. This vendor is all about antlers in so many different ways!
The were selling chew toys, earring, necklaces, buttons, charms and even pictures!
We only planned on spending a short time there but we ended up there for almost four hours we were having so much fun! We hope you join us next year and donate to some amazing causes! Don’t forget to have a look at the two non-profits and if you can, donate!
